Date night

I truly cannot remember the last time Andrew and I went out just the two of us.  I think it may have been in Kyoto when Mom and Suzanne were here and we slipped away for a couple hours one evening.  Every weekend seems full and frankly babysitting for 4 children is not cheap, so it is hard to fit in.  This past weekend we finally did make time to go out alone.  It had been raining all day and it certainly wasn't the type of weather that would lend itself to a romantic spring stroll.  At about 4 when our sitter came, we were delighted to see the sun had come out and maybe we could enjoy a evening in Tokyo after all.  We decided to check out Ueno park for their famous cherry blossoms, as we had heard they had peaked just a day prior.  It was a great choice, for, due to the rain, there were far less people in the park, and it was a beautiful evening with a festive feel all around.

There are 1300 cherry trees that line the main corridor of the park.  And they created a beautiful tunnel lined with lanterns.

My favorite part

Can't get away from these in Japan

I may have married this guy on our first date if he had told me that someday he would take me on dates in downtown Tokyo.

Food choices...octopus on a stick, squid on a stick
and the others were unrecognizable

Hanami, or picnicing under cherry trees is everywhere, and a Japanese tradition.  The ground was wet, but clearly these people did not mind.

In full bloom

We had a wonderful evening.  I just hope its not three months before we do it again.
